We need your help!

Save The Lowther Arms!

Help us make The Lowther Arms at Mawbray, a Cumbrian community-owned pub

Share Offer extended!

More good news!
From now on, every share you buy will be matched £ for £ by the share 'Booster Programme',
up to £100,000!!

(It's run by the Community Shares Unit, funded by Power to Change; and Co-operatives UK will become a member of our Society
- and it will still be one member one vote)

We are the Lowther Arms Community Project, a small local community group passionate about saving our traditional pub in the heart of our village.

The pub has been here since 1847, perfectly situated on the Solway Coast, with cycling and rambling routes alongside superb panoramic views. It is a pub with potential for locals and visitors alike. Sadly the pub has closed and is for sale, possibly for development, and we only have a few months to raise the money to buy it for our community.

We need to raise a minimum of £250,000 and maximum of £300,000 to finance the project.

£250,000 will allow us to buy the pub, cover associated costs and simply open it. £300,000 will allow us to transform the pub into a warm and welcoming venue with a wider range of services, including a cafe, essentials shop and courier collection! All the additional community facilities will provide income streams that are essential for success.

If you’d like to buy a slice of our Solway Coastal Heritage, shares cost £50 (minimum purchase of 2 shares, £100). And if you don’t want a share – we’re happy to receive donations too.

So join us on our journey. BUY Shares. Donate. Tell your friends. You can also sign up for our newsletter below.

Buy Shares and you could be Lucky Shareholder, number 173!

It is 173 years since the first record of a pub in Mawbray and, to celebrate a pub in the village for more than one and a half centuries, the Lowther Arms Community Project is giving away a special prize this week to the 173rd Shareholder!

The prize reflects the richness and diversity of the Mawbray landscape and is a wonderful selection of hand-made cheese from the local Mawbray Cheese Company, and a signed copy of the book ‘Home Grown in Cumbria’ by Mawbray-based author, Annette Gibbons.

All you have to do is buy shares to be automatically entered, and the 173rd person buying shares will be the lucky prize winner!

The first record of the pub was in the 1847 Cumberland Directory and the pub has traded more or less continuously ever since. The campaign to save the pub currently has 171 shareholders and just over £69,000 to raise to reach its £250,000 target. Buy shares and you could be number 173!

It’s also Apple Day this month, which celebrates the landscape, its ecology and culture, and the provenance and traceability of food - so the prize is a tribute to our local area and reflects our optimism for the future. Imagine - what better way to enjoy the countryside than a walk along the beach followed by a cheese ploughman’s and a glass of cider in the pub! We’re lucky to have so many food producers on the doorstep and look forward to the pub re-opening and serving food and drink again soon.

Lovely to see you Vivienne Crowand we're always happy to say hi and chat about the pub - and the #solwaycoast is stunning.
Maybe next time we'll see you in the pub for a drink!

To guarantee there is a pub - buy shares today so you can walk or relax all day on the beach and sup at the pub at night.
